Sauter was passionate about flight. Throughout his career he  produced a series of watercolours inspired by aerial views with rushing perspectives.

The Sierra Nevada is a mountain range in the Western United States, between the Central Valley of California and the Basin and Range Province. Sauter made a painting trip to California in the late 1950's
