Street Decoration (R-3614), circa 1912
Unmounted (ref: 6210)
Monogram on stone b.l., lithograph, unique proof
10 x 14.6 in. (24.4 x 37cm)
Provenance: From the collection of Count Albert de Belleroche
'Street Decoration' was a proposal for a Drake Memorial, sketched in 1912. It was never carried out, partly because of the scale (it included the colonnade and maritime frieze as well as a monument topped with an illuminated crystal globe), and partly because the proposed location was the deprived East End. It's reproduced in Furst's Decorative Art of FB, and Furst writes about it pp.185-6.
This print will be appearing in Dr Libby Horner's forthcoming catalogue raisonné as ref R-3614.
We aer grateful to Dr Libby Horner and Rob Watson for assistance.
